About Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is known as the yoga of awareness.  It is a complete yogic system, incorporating asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), mantra (chanting) and meditation. The primary aim of Kundalini Yoga is to unite the practitioner with his or her higher consciousness.  Unlike most forms of yoga practiced in the West today, Kundalini Yoga also includes prescribed sets of dynamic exercise (kriyas) that act on specific areas of the physical and subtle body to help balance mind, body and spirit.

What can I expect from a Kundalini Yoga Class?

Kundalini yoga is suitable for people of all ability and fitness levels, however, if you are experiencing any health challenges, please let me know.

  • We begin the class by tuning in with Adi mantra, “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo,” which means, “I call upon the teacher within me; my inner wisdom.” Students may chant along or just listen if they prefer

  • Once we have tuned in we will warm up our bodies and then practice a kriya or set of exercises, aimed at producing a particular state. A kriya includes postures, breathing and dynamic exercise

  • After the kriya we will practice a meditation followed by deep relaxation

  • We finish the class by singing a short song of blessing. Words to the song will be provided. Again, you may join in or simply listen
